Proctored Tests At HomeTaking real practice tests is the single best way to improve your test score. Students in our courses proctor their tests at home. Our instructors teach proper proctoring procedures and provide students with the necessary tools and information to proctor their tests effectively. Students will need to find a consistent place to take their practice tests free from distraction and in an environment which is similar to the testing location. This allows students to mimic the real world test examination format.
Course Structure and FormatOur SAT course is structured much like a university classroom course. There are lectures given, interactive use of problems to illustrate ideas, question and answer sessions, content reviews, and student collaboration. Math, data analysis, statistics, and grammar are reviewed to promote content mastery. The SAT essay is reviewed where instructors teach writing to the test and the class works interactively to build top scoring SAT essays. Instructors present a psychology lecture during the first week that provides an understanding of the foundations of the test, fosters student motivation and addresses students’ anxiety and stress. Instructors teach students how to look at problems, how to break them down, which methods, strategies, and techniques to apply, and how to derive the quickest solution. They go through problems step-by-step and show students what to look for and what tools are necessary. Time management is addressed to ensure students’ test day performance is streamlined and efficient. Mastery is facilitated by strategy lectures and question and answer sessions.
Our class meets everyday of the week and covers a specific area of the SAT during each week of class. The course format allows students to spread out the work so that they understand it thoroughly before taking the actual exam. The course is an immersion experience, so students will spend 18 hours in class each week and between 7 – 8 hours on homework and a practice test. The outside work is an important component to the class and is essential to reaching your potential. While we have a structured syllabus and curriculum, instructors will adapt the course to best reflect student needs and performance.
A test prep community is important to the classroom experience as well as each student’s performance. Instructors are accessible throughout the course and keep an open dialogue with their students. They are available to meet with briefly before or after class and every student has access to their instructor via e-mail. You’ll get to know your instructor with our small class sizes. Instructors are leaders and facilitate peer relationships within the classroom.
